FOCUS: O’Neil Financial
Bill O’Neil, 54, began his financial business career 23 years ago as sole proprietor. And in 2000, Bill’s son, Mark, 26, joined him to form O’Neil Financial.
O’Neil Financial’s main focus is personal finance. They focus first and foremost on life’s twilight years, promoting long-term care.
A logical approach
Their approach is to first interview their clients -- like doctors might in order to learn.
about their patients -- what investments they might have, their risk tolerance, insurances, etc. Then they discuss what they refer to as “the ugly part”. This is where they determine where the client is in relationship to their goals; preparedness for a catastrophe such as loss of income or life. Then, they analyze and plan retirement and college goals and objectives.
Though their services scratch the surface of tax and legal consultation, they bring in specialists for these services, if appropriate.
O’Neil Financial holds quarterly seminars at the new Allen Park Community Center. Be sure you attend sometime; the advice is free, and so is the food. FocusAllenPark will post these events for your convenience.

Qualified to plan your future
Bill is a Certified Senior Advisor, which means he specializes in planning for senior citizens with 23 years of experience.
Mark received his personal finance degree from Wayne State University, specifically in Financial Markets and Investing, since the University of Michigan offered more corporate-focused finance degrees. He continues to pursue his Certified Financial Planner designation. Mark also has website development skills and experience (see www.oneilfinancial.com).
“He’s the one with the brains, and I’ve got the gray hair.” Bill quips, referring to Mark’s education and to his own experience.
Giving back to the community
During the time Bill practiced his personal financial planning business, he was “blessed with a political career.” He spent quite a bit of time – even weekends -- away from home.
He proudly served for seven years on the City of Allen Park Community Council, twelve years as Wayne County Commissioner, and six years as our representative in the Michigan State House Representatives in Lansing. “If you do the math,” he says, “that adds up to 25 years.”
Bill and his wife, Mary, speak regularly about real estate and investing to young couples planning to get married at St. Frances Cabrini’s Marriage Prep program. Bill and Mark are happy to give free advice for anyone in desperate need.
Big Week!
“A great week in my life was when [wife] Mary, [kids] Mark, Caitlyn and I flew out to [son,] Cory’s in California to celebrate Christmas,” Bill explained. “Two days later [December 27th] Mary and I celebrated our 30th anniversary,” the way he would most love to spend it: with his three children. On the 29th, they welcomed their first granddaughter, Jordyn O’Neil. And if that wasn’t enough to celebrate, on the 31st, term limits required Bill to end his State Representative term, and he retired from his political career.
Free financial advice
We asked what general financial advice Bill and Mark could share with FocusAllenPark.com visitors, and they offered this:
“Go see a financial planner or attend a seminar if just to get a number of hints and free advice. And, if you attend an O’Neil Financial seminar, enjoy free dinner provided by Moro’s Restaurant! Don’t put it off…every day counts.”
Bill adds that most financial planners are like Bill and Mark; they don’t want to “push” products for quick sales. They focus on long-term relationships. “We’re most proud of our maintained clientele.”
FocusAllenPark sincerely thanks O’Neil Financial for their support. Please visit their FocusAllenPark page.
